To be is to be contingent: nothing of which it can be said that "it is" can be alone and independent. But being is a member of paticca-samuppada as arising which contains ignorance. Being is only invertible by ignorance.

Destruction of ignorance destroys the illusion of being. When ignorance is no more, than consciousness no longer can attribute being (pahoti) at all. But that is not all for when consciousness is predicated of one who has no ignorance than it is no more indicatable (as it was indicated in M Sutta 22)

The case for polygamy

What is the case for polygamy (a.k.a. polygyny)?

Is monogamy the only legitimate form of marriage — or have we created a strange anomaly in which sexual chaos (hookups, serial relationships, sexual irresponsibility, and a kind of de facto poligamy) is tolerated while legal polygyny (which is can be regulated) remains taboo?

In this episode of The Mansplainers, we are joined by Rob Kowalski, author of Man of Options, for a provocative and wide-ranging conversation about polygyny, monogamy, Christianity, marriage, sex, responsibility, and the modern mating market.

Rob makes the biblical case for polygyny and challenges what he calls the modern Christian doctrine of “monogamy-only.” From there, the conversation goes far beyond theology to examine the history of the practic and the practical implications today.

Among the questions we explore:

What happens to other men if some men marry multiple women?

Does being sexually desirable to many women make a man a good husband or father?

How could plural marriage actually function under modern legal systems?

Why does contemporary culture tolerate people cycling through sexual partners while recoiling at the idea of a man assuming lifelong responsibility for more than one woman?

And the question that I found especially intriguing but had never considered:

Can polygyny help us rein in the out-of-control divorce industry?
